Transportation to Airport from New York City Center

John F. Kennedy Intl. Airport

There are many transportations methods available to get from the city center to the airport. No matter where you are in New York City you have access to the metro. Take the metro to Jamaica Station or Howard Beach Station, both of which are close to the airport; from there you can get on the AirTrain line and take it all the way to JFK.  

To get from Lower Manhattan or Brooklyn to JFK you can take metro line A to Howard Beach Station. Then get on the AirTrain, which provides transportation to the terminals. The duration of the trip can vary according to where in the city you are departing from, but it usually takes around 60-75 minutes.  

To get from Manhattan to JFK you can take metro line E or the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) train. Both lines go to Jamaica Station, from where you have to get on the AirTrain to get to the airport terminals. LIRR is the fastest option while the metro is the cheapest option. To get from the north of Queens or the south of Brooklyn to JFK, you can take the J line or the Z line. The metros and trains run every 5-10 minutes.

The NYC Airporter express shuttle bus service is another transportation alternative. These shuttles depart from Penn Station, Grand Central Terminal and Port Authority Bus Terminal and the total time to get to JFK takes about 90 minutes. From Penn Station, one of the city’s major stations located in central Manhattan, you can get to Newark Liberty Airport Station in about 30 minutes by taking the NJ Transit train or the Amtrak train. Newark Liberty Airport was the first airport to open in New York. It is ranked second in terms of passenger density, after JFK.
