About Greensboro/High Point

Greensboro, in the north of the US state of North Carolina, is located within the state's most prominent metropolitan area. The city, together with High Point and Winston-Salem, forms a triangle-shaped residential area. Greensboro is the third largest city in the state, the largest compound of the metropolis known as the 'Piedmont Triad'.

The city, which dates back to the 1750s, takes its current name from General Nathanael Greene, who exhibited heroism during the War of Independence of the United States against the British. Despite the fact that he lost the war on his battlefront, General Greene caused a heavy blow to the British. His name was given to the city in 1781. Greensboro, which met railway lines in the 1840s, began to grow rapidly in trade and industry.

Today, textiles, especially denim fabrics and furniture production are remarkable. Greensboro, which plays a central role in the business world and education in the region, is home to the management offices of technology companies and major industrial organizations. Greensboro is also hosts a large aircraft factory where a private company has developed jet planes and will begin production in the near future. On the other side, Greensboro is a full-fledged student town; North Carolina University is located right in the heart of the city. As its name suggests, Greensboro has a greenish urban texture. Guilfort Court House Military Park, Benjamin Park and The Bog Garden, Bicentennial Garden and the Greensboro Arboretum are among the monumental green areas of the city. Also the Science Center, the History Museum, the International Civil Rights Center and Museum, the Carolina Theater and the Greensboro Children's Museum all make up the city's popular attractions. Greensboro's greatest gift to world literature is William Sydney Porter, who wrote short stories with the nickname of O. Henry. The world famous writer was born in 1862 in this city. The city, dominated by subtropical climate, has a hot and humid climate for most of the year. Piedmont Triad International Airport is 17.5 kilometers from the city.
