Ardabil, located on the north-west of Iran, is one of the oldest settlements of both the country and the region. Carp weaving in Ardabil, which is known for its world famous Iranian carpets, is made by traditional methods from ancient times. A large number of people came to Ardabil, an important religious center during the Sassanid rule, to purify their sins at that time. For this reason, the name of the city is known as Dar-el-Aman (repentance city). Many Azerbaijanis also live in the city, which is located on the border of Azerbaijan. The city, where Safevi Shah Ismail the 1st was born, is an historically important center.

Although the founding time and founder of the city is not fully known, it was founded by the Sasani ruler Firuz according to many histories. The climate of the city is also characterized by terrestrial climate, which is generally prevalent in the country. Among the important historical sites to be seen in the city are the Sheikh Seyfeddin Ardabil Tomb, the Friday Mosque, the Karasu Bridge and the Ardabil Archeology Museum exhibiting the historical relics from the nearby area. Almost every season of the year is suitable for going to Ardabil. If you prefer the spring months when climate conditions are more favorable, you can travel around more easily.
