Mersa Matruh, a seaside city in the Mediterranean coasts of Egypt, is described as the 'hidden paradise' of the country. The city, which has the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean, is also the administrative center of Matruh Province in Northern Egypt. Mersa Matruh, between the border of Libya and Alexandria, is an Egyptian city with a very long history. The city was known as Amunia in ancient Egyptian period, as Paraitonion in Byzantine period and as Paraetonium in Roman period. The city, which was in the form of a small fishing village in the ancient Egyptian period, became an important commercial port after entering the Roman Empire rule. Mersa Matruh went through British and German occupations and took his share from the First and Second World Wars.

Located in the northwest coast of the country, Mersa Matruh is a complete tourism paradise with soft white sands and transparent turquoise waters. Among the most famous beaches are Agiba and Gharam. The natural corridor between the two rocks in Cleopatra Bath offers a different sea bath experience. It is believed that Cleopatra made a sea bath here in the waves formed between the two rocks. Besides these listed locations, Agebaah Beach, Coptic Chapel, Rommel Cave Military Museum, Marina Harabeleri and Matruh Bazaar are popular destinations in the city. The city, which is dominated by desert climate, has a mild climate thanks to the humid weather coming through the Mediterranean in the summer and winter months. Mersa Matruh International Airport is located 10.9 kilometers south of the city.
