El Oued city in the Democratic People's Republic of Algeria, the largest country in North Africa, is a city with a population of about 630 thousand, of which the majority is Muslim. The city's N16 highway connects El Oued to Touggort in the southwest and Tebessa in the north. The N48 highway connects El Oued to the northern city of Still. While the education level of the urban population is not very high, 7% of the population seems to have completed higher education and 17% have completed secondary education. The overall literacy rate is 80%, 91% of the males and 80% of the females are literate.
