The city is about 83 kilometers from Colombo, 44 kilometers north of Kandy and about one thousand meters above sea level. The city is known with Ceylon tea plantations, Sinharaja Forest area and Adam Hill. There are also many religious buildings in the city, so that the Sri Lankan government has chosen the city of Hatton as the "Religious Zone".
