Transportation from the City Center to the Airport:

The distance between the Aleppo Airport and the city center is short. However, since the airport is currently closed for commercial flights, you can use the closest airports to Aleppo, which are Hatay Airport and Gaziantep Airport. From these airports, you can rent a car and within 2-3 hours you can reach Aleppo city center. At Gaziantep Airport, there are seven car rental companies, both local and international and at Hatay Airport there are three local car rental companies. 

Also, some companies provide shuttle services to Aleppo from both airports; but lately, these companies have temporarily suspended their services. 

General Information About Aleppo International Airport (ALP):

Aleppo Airport has a history of almost 100 years and over the years, has been expanded and restored many times. The airport consists of 4 floors and it is located 7 kilometers from the city center. Aleppo Airport provides VIP Lounges, exchange offices, ATMs, a clinic, several shops, restaurants, duty-free, and a mosque. This airport is temporarily closed to commercial flights since 2011 and there is no clear date for its reopening.

In Sulaymaniyah, transportation alternatives to the city center from the airport are very limited. Because there is no regular public transportation option, the most practical and comfortable options to be chosen are taxi, car rental or private service.

Many of the hotels in the city offer private services to the airport, sometimes upon request and sometimes periodically. If you are staying at a hotel, we advise you to consult your hotel about this issue before your travel.

Taxi

Taxis offer a comfortable and affordable transportation option to the city center from the airport. They can also be used for the transportation throughout the city. It is sometimes difficult to find a taxi at the airport and if you see another person waiting for a taxi, you might consider sharing a taxi.

For traveling in the city or even to neighboring cities, sharing a taxi with others is a common alternative used in Sulaymaniyah. With this method, you can make your travel more affordable. However, the majority of taxi drivers cannot speak English. So, it would be better if you learn from some basic words and important phrases before your travel.

Car Rental

Car rental is the most comfortable and safest transportation option to travel in the city. You can rent a car from the offices of many car rental companies located in the city and have a comfortable travel to the airport. If you wish, you can also make a reservation online before your arrival.
