Transportation to Airport from Mauritius City Center

Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Intl. Airport

The capital Port Louis is around 40 km from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport. You can take the bus, rent a car, or take one of the taxis from the capital of Mahebourg to reach the airport. If you prefer to use your own private car then you can easily reach Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam airport by following the road signs.

Private Car

You can follow the A10 if you’re coming to the airport from the direction of Mahebourg. The distance between Mahebourg town centre and the airport is around 6 kilometres, so you can find yourself in front of the terminal entrance quite quickly. If you’re coming from Port Louis then you should follow the M2. The distance from Port Louis is 25 miles, or 40 kilometres, so you should plan accordingly when you set out for the airport. Once you reach Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport then you can leave your car at the long and short term car parks in the area.

Taxi

Taxis are easily available most places and are a quick and practical option for getting to the airport. On the other hand, taking a taxi from Port Louis, which is 40 kilometres away, is going to be a little too pricey to be realistic option. Regardless of what you decide, you should get information about how much the journey should cost around average from where you are and be prepared to haggle. If you’re coming from the nearby Mahebourg, taking a taxi might be a much more suitable option. If you’re staying at a hotel in the capital, or somewhere else nearby, then you can also think about sharing the fare with other passengers who need to get to the airport. This can dramatically reduce the taxi fare you would otherwise need to pay by yourself.

Bus

It’s possible to reach Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport with a bus from Port Louis. Taking the bus from Port Louis centre costs around 300 Mauritius rupi per passenger. When this is compared with the 1500 rupi you would need for the journey it’s considerably cheaper. However, the bus only takes passengers from specific locations in the centre, so this won’t provide the comfort of being picked up from your hotel and being dropped off directly at the airport. Because of this, the bus ride to the airport can be difficult and tiring despite being much cheaper. Another alternative is to take a taxi to the bus stop and then continue with taking the bus to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport.

Car Rental

This is a choice for those preferring to drive themselves and reach the aiport in a quick and comfortable way. You can pick up a car from the different car agencies that offer services in Mauritius such as Hertz, Europcar, Avis or ADA, Budget, First and ABC. If you don’t know that much about the roads in Mauritius then it might make sense to take a GPS or map with you on your way to Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport. The car rental agencies have offices in the aiport terminal and so it’s possible to just park your vehicle in a designated area and drop the key off at one of these offices. If you’re just dropping someone off, then there is also a carpark where you can leave your car for a few hours.

Airport Information
