About Barueri

Having become a rather important international trade area of Sao Paulo, Barueri is divided into two parts by Tiete River. The part located on the southwestern side of this river is called “Old Town” due to the fact that it could preserve its historic aspect dating back to the 1610s. On the other side, Alphaville Barueri is the name of the other half of the city on the northeastern side that has developed with the planned urbanization since 1973. Both centres of Alphaville and Barueri have distances that could be discovered on foot. You can prefer bus or renting a car to travel from one part to the other in the city.

In Alphaville Square, you can visit Igreja da Gruta, which catches the attention for its cave-like architecture. Following this visit, you can take a break in the small cafes in this square. Having an area of 1.5 square kilometres on the right side of Tiete River, Parque Ilha do Tamboré is a place you can have a long and pleased day. Though all the areas of the park are not open to the visitors, you can use picnic areas and visit its museum that makes history-lovers happy. This park is definitely one of the places that you must spare one day in Barueri.

You can find great souvenirs in the small boutiques or have a nice coffee break in the cafes near the fountain “Fonte Cunhatã”, made of brass and basalt, representing three women in Lelita Bittencourt Square. Alternatively, you can take a tour to Igreja Matriz de Barueri that has an attractive modern architecture and discover the main shopping street of Barueri. When you look for a place for shopping or a fine dining, Barueri has plenty of options to offer you. You should especially try gourmet restaurants or authentic street foods here.

The ideal period to visit Barueri is from December to May. Due to the dramatic temperature differences between day and night and all-year-long rains, you had better pack you bag by taking into account these weather conditions.
