Located in Cuba, Ciego de Ávila had a population of 135 thousand according to the 2004 census. The city is the capital of the Ciego de Ávila province and lies on the Carretera Central highway and a major railway.  

The city’s port Júcaro is located 24 km away on the Gulf of Ana Maria, in the Caribbean Sea. Among the places to visit are the city’s largest park Parque Marti, the Teatro Principal located a few blocks from the park, and the University of Ciego de Avila.
