About Denia

Denia, which is a city on the northern tip of the Alicante region of Spain, is renowned for its twenty kilometers long golden sandy beaches, bars and restaurants. The origin of the name of the city is Arabic and it means 'close'.

Having a deep-rooted history, Denia has a magnificent view with its colorful fishing boats and medieval castle dating back to the 11th century and located in the center. There are also observation decks on the skirts of the castle walls to watch the scenery. In addition to the historical buildings that are located around the castle called 'Old City', the city has a significant place in European tourism with its colorful fish stalls, boutiques, prestigious marina and old windmills.

Denia, which is also the passenger port of the Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean, is surrounded by Montgo Natural Park Mountains and attracts attention with its colorful flora and interesting cave formations. The city, where the sun shines for 320 days per year, is a favorite place for scuba diving and snorkeling enthusiasts and is among the most popular destinations in Spain. Denia's blue-flag beaches also offer a great atmosphere for water sports like windsurfing. There are hundreds of bars and restaurants in the city where nightlife is as colorful as the daytime and there is always music on the coast.

The temperature starts increasing in May and exceeds 30 degrees in July and August. The best time to visit the city, which has always a lively atmosphere, is July when the traditional “bulls at the sea” festival is held. In this festival, bulls run down the main street and visitors can enjoy joining this festival.

Denia is also very close to Ibiza and the Palma Islands. It is possible to reach these islands by ferry. Valencia, which is famous for its architecture, is a 40-minute drive away.
