Esch-sur-Alzette, which is a cosmopolitan city with its vivacious history, is famous for its large shopping centers and architectural attractions designed by the architects such as Violet le Duc, Joseph Stübben, Gottfried Böhm and Peter Rice. Esch-sur-Alzette, which is the second largest city of the country, is located on the French border and also in the Alzette valley that extends along the city. The city is 17-kilometer-away from the capital city Luxembourg, while its distance to the airport is 25 kilometers.

Esch-sur-Alzette is home to the National Museum of The Resistance that had also a role in the resistance against German occupation during the Second World War. In this museum, which has special exhibitions for those interested in history, you can also see The Political Prisoner, the statue of Lucien Wercollier. In addition, you can visit Berwart Tower built in the year of 1621, and take the hiking routes located near the Galgenberg Park. Of course, you should make yourself ready to taste chocolates, local beer called Diekirch, wines, and the drink named eau-de-vie, which means life water made from plum, that is preferred after eating.  Esch-Sur-Alzette has oceanic climate features, so the best time to travel is the summer period when rains are rarely seen.
