Gan Island is one of the 1,192 coral islands that make up the Maldives, located in the Indian Ocean. Located just south of the equator, Gan Island is part of Addu Atoll, which has the largest population among the seven administrative regions of the Maldives. The island is the second largest island of the Addu Atoll, after Hithadhoo.
Gan Island had a long history as a British colony and even hosted the British navy and air base during World War II. During that time warplanes would land and take off from that airbase, which today serves as the international airport. Transportation to Gan Island City Center from Airport

There are buses as means of public transportation. These also provide urban transportation. These buses can also be used to get to the other islands.
Gan International Airport is just 1 kilometer of the city center. You can reach the city center by bus. If you do not prefer public transportation, you can rent a car at the airport by visiting one of the car rental companies. Taxi is one of the most preferred means of transportation. On the island where there are many accommodation centers, transportation service is provided to the guests with private services. There are also speedboats as a different alternative for those travelling to the other islands connected to each other by bridges.
