Grenaa, one of the significant port towns of Denmark, is located in the east of the Jutland Peninsula. The geographical region where the town is situated is called the Djursland Region, and Grenaa is the biggest town of this region.
The town is one of the summer destinations of the country with its 5 km long sandy beaches and temperate climate under the effect of gulf streams. In addition, it has assumed an active role in the manufacturing industry since 1445’. With summer houses on its coast, Grenaa is the most popular second beach area of Denmark. Furthermore, the town, which is considered as the greatest commercial base of Djursland with its shops and markets, is connected to the city of Varberg of Sweden and the Anholt Region of Denmark via ferryboats. You can also access to the cities of Odder and Aarhus easily by using the local train services in the town.
The center of the city consists of three pedestrian streets connecting to Torvet Square. You can sit in open-air restaurants and listen to mini concerts of the street performers at the square. Grenaa Church, one of the oldest artifacts of the town, is also located at Torvet Square. Constructed in 1300s, the church is one of the best representatives of the Gothic style, and it is famous for the size of its bell. You can visit the periodic exhibitions of the local artists in Grenaa Museum, which remained from 1760s. You can also reach Lillegade, one of the most dynamic roads of the town, from the west of Torvet, and travel to the past among the pastoral wooden houses of Nederstræde Road.
The closest airport to Grenaa is Aarhus Airport located 20 kilometers southeast of the town. You can take buses and taxis or rent a car for your transfer between the airport and the city center.
