Hout Bay is also known as ‘Wood Bay’ because it’s the place where wood in the construction of Cape Down is obtained. One of Cape Town's charming coastal towns, Hout Bay is located on the outskirts of the mountains overlooking the Atlantic Ocean and is small enough that you can get to all the sight seeing spots, including the town center in 20 minutes by car.

The town is considered one of the world's 16 largest wave points where the waves reach 5-6 meters each year. You won’t get enough of swimming in its cobalt blue ocean. It hosts the Red Bull competitions in May and August and it’s possible to so a lot of different water sports like sailing and sea kayaking, and you can also explore the nearby islands with boats that leave from the port that’s quite advanced in fishing. If you have an interest in boats, or if you just want to see something different, you can find a boat market organized there every Sunday.

The town’s mountains have great trails for both trekking and mountain biking. Adding the warmth of the locals and the charm of the golden sandy beaches to the immersive nature, it’s easy to understand why so many people prefer this place. The town’s streets are also very lively. The restaurants, whichserve mainly seafood, art galleries, and the local boutiques on the streets are lively and colorful, and make for some great photos.

The eastern and western forts built by the Dutch, the Fishing Museum, the bird's paradise with 300 bird species, and the craft markets are all among other points of interest in Hout Bay. The closest airport is Cape Town International Airport, which is roughly 25 kilometers. You can get to the town by taxi or shuttle service.
