About Imlil

Located right at the heart of Atlas Mountains in Morocco, Imlil is a small village and also one of the sets where the once cult-movie “Seven Years in Tibet” was filmed.

One of the important mountain tourism spots located 60 kilometre south to Marrakesh, Imlil is pretty close to Jebel Toubkal Mountain, the highest peak of North Africa with its 4167-metre-length. Thousands of travellers visiting this village each year start their mountain climbing route in Toubkal National Park in Imlil. Reaching up to the village, the asphalt road finishes on the mountainsides. Then, you just jump into the mystical atmosphere of the village in a nature tour accompanied by the tour guides either by riding a mule or on foot. If you need to take a break on the road, you can drop by traditional Berber villages on the way. One of the unforgettable experiences in Imlil is the hospitality of the indigenous people in these villages towards you when you want to have some traditional food or mint tea on your break. You will feel a glow of happiness among the pink houses sprinkled to this village located around 1740 metres above sea level, and old trees that could not be seen due to the abundance of walnuts, cherries, and apples among these houses, and a gentle, fresh breeze from the mountain.

You can have a pleasant route each season in Imlil, from which you can reach Oukaimeden ski resort easily. If you are interested in discovering the nature, or if you are adventurer enough to jump into and swim in the glacial lake, you should definitely drop by Ifni- İmlil, the only lake of Atlas Mountains. Alternatively, you can enter into the holy Marabout Tomb, which is forbidden to the non-muslims, or take an 8-kilometre walk to Sidi Chamarouch, which has a picturesque view with its small waterfall.

Imlil is connected to Marrakesh by big taxis or minibusses. Imlil has railway to Asni and Ikkiss villages as well. You can take a different journey via open-bar trucks and coaches. The nearest airport you can land to reach this beautiful mountain town by air is Marrakesh Airport. Then, you can either take a cab or rent a car to arrive Imlil, which is roughly 65 kilometres away to the airport.
