About Kalambaka

Kalambaka (also known as Kalabaka) is a very old settlement in the Trikala Region of Greece. Although Kalambaka is also home to many historical remains, the city is fundamentally situated in the foothills of the region called Meteora and it is a famous and developed city by welcoming the Meteora visitors.

Meteora which means “suspended in the air” is a rock formation that is accepted as the most important factor that makes Kalambaka valuable and attractive in terms of tourism. There are many historical Orthodox churches and monasteries on the steep slopes of Meteora, which is also included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Do not forget to wear clothes that cover your shoulders and knees (for both sexes) when you visit these monasteries. You can reach Meteora by taxi but you can choose to walk like many visitors in order to feel its mystic air better. If you visit the region during the hot summer months, be careful about the sun at the noon hours and remember to have plenty of water with you.

The Natural History Museum of Meteora and Mushroom Museum is one of the places that visitors should definitely stop by. At the end of the museum tour, you can do shopping and buy different products from the souvenir shop in the museum. The Hellenic Culture Museum should also be in your list if you are a museum lover. Theopetra Cave, which is a unique archeological site, is one of the most important historical treasures for not only Kalambaka but also Greece.

In Kalambaka, which is under the influence of the Mediterranean climate, the winter months are warm but rainy. The summer months are long and arid. Especially July and August are the hottest months. The best time to visit the city is the spring months.
