Located in the south of Karon and one kilometer from Patong, Kata Beach is known as the most popular beach in Phuket. The small town with its magnificent blue sea, palm trees and white sandy beaches is mostly preferred to swim, sunbathe and have fun. The center of the city near Karon is the oldest part and it is the place where the night life and restaurants are concentrated. In Kata city center, where you can find many entertainment venues, bars, massage and souvenir shops, you can also taste the delicacies of the world cuisine. The coast is surrounded by two magnificent beaches; the bigger beach is called ‘Kata Yai'. On the other side of this beach, which offers plenty of alternatives for water sports and has a boat house, located is the quiet and smaller Kata Noi beach. There is a coral reef that extends to the Crab Island near the beach which can be discovered with scuba diving. Kata Noi Beach is preferred by those looking for a great place to relax and enjoy a quiet holiday.

The most different experience you can live at Kata Beach is to take a walk on elephants. You can attend food courses if you are interested in Thai cuisine, which has a distinct place in the gourmet kitchens, or surfing courses if you want to dance with great waves. Kata Beach is becoming a surfing center for athletes, especially during the period from May to October. Surfing contests are held every year. During the period from November to April, the coast is filled with people who want to watch a photogenic sunset.

Some of the places to visit in Kata Beach besides its sea, sand, sun are Dino Park hosting realistic models of volcanoes and dinosaurs, Surf House Phuket, where you can surf with artificial waves, Karon Viev Point located a few kilometers south of Kata Beach where you can take pictures of spectacular landscapes, and Kata Temple on the inner part of Kata Beach.

The closest airport you can use to reach Kata Beach by air is Phuket Airport, which is 47 kilometers away. To get to the city from the airport you can take a local bus, taxi or rent a car.
