Balıkesir is an important city with regards to agriculture and tourism in Turkey, with coasts to Marmara Sea and Aegean Sea. Höşmerim dessert, Ayvalık toast, Susurluk ayran and raw börek are local delicacies unique to the city. Balıkesir has become a province where pensioners prefer to live in recent years.
