La Fortuna de San Carlos is located in the canton of San Carlos connected to the province of Alajuela in Costa Rica, which is a tropical paradise. “La Fortuna” means “fortune” since the city recovered from the volcanic eruptions in the region with little damage. La Fortuna de San Carlos is generally known for the Arenal Volcano which is 1,633 meters high. The volcano has been dormant since 2010 but it is still active. Around the Arenal volcano which makes a red and bright show with the lavas it vomits, there is the National Park where you will be welcomed with a fascinating fauna. Arenal Lake in the park is one of the ideal places for fishing and windsurfing. In addition, you can join rafting and boat tours.
The city is located in the middle of many other geological wonders in addition to the Arenal volcano. La Fortuna Waterfall (Catarata de La Fortuna) which is a 70-meter waterfall and Tabacon Hot Springs decorated with rare orchids and greens are among the spectacular beauties. La Fortuna de San Carlos, which has a vegetation cover bearing the brightest colors of the nature, is an important tourist destination thanks to its beauties. It is among the popular destinations with its bridges interconnecting slopes, its activities like mountain biking and its wind suitable for paragliding.
La Fortuna de San Carlos can be reached after a 3-hour drive from San Jose, the capital of Costa Rica. If you prefer flying to the city, you should use San Jose Airport and you can reach the city from the airport by using a bus or taxi.
