Established within the borders of the Walloon Region of Belgium, Malmedy is a small and historical municipality located in the Province of Liege. The name Malmedy comes from the Latin phrase of "A malo mundarum" and means "purifying from evil". It is thought that the name of the town originated due to regular flooding in the past from the Warche river passing through it. 

Established in 648, Malmedy was a typical medieval town, but it began to change starting from the 1600s. Thanks to the leather and clothing produced in the workshops opened in the region in this period, Malmedy developed in the course of time and gained its current status. Nowadays, the town is especially famous for its highly active musical life. The accordion and mandolin clubs located in Malmedy attract tourists that are music enthusiasts as well as the residents of Malmedy.
