Since Roskilde is a small town, it is possible to discover the main tourist attractions by walking. Train, bus or taxi can be used to travel to more distant places. The use of bicycle is also quite common among people. Roskilde Cathedral, which is the symbol of the town and included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, is one of the most important places to see in the town. Classical music concerts are today organized in the cathedral. Viking Ship Museum and Roskilde Museum are among the places to visit in Roskilde which was one of the most important destinations of the Viking age.
Byparken, which has been the ornament of Roskilde since 1915, is one of the favorite places of green lovers. In addition, Boserup Forest is quite charming for nature lovers with its 5 km long trekking trail. Although Danish cheese comes to the forefront among the tastes to try in Roskilde, it should be noted that the town is also very assertive about red meat and seafood.
You can find almost everything you are looking for on Algade/Skomagergade Street. Roskilde is a town which gained the title of the best shopping town of the country a few years ago. Although the nightlife in the town is not very lively, there are a great number of bars and pubs where you can enjoy the live music and try local Danish beers. The world-famous Roskilde Music Festival is organized every year at the end of June and at the beginning of July.
