About Safed

Safed, which is located in the north of Israel, is a part of the Galilee region and is described as the balance of the east and west. The city, which overlooks Tiberias and the Sea of Galilee in the pine forests of the Galilee Mountains, has both an ancient splendor and a mystical atmosphere. Safed, one of the four cities that is considered as the holy land by the Jews considered together with Jerusalem, Hebron and Tiberias, is one of the places where spirituality is most intense.

Although it is not known exactly when the city was founded, according to some rumors it is said that it was built by one of Noah's sons after the Great Flood. The known true history is that it was a shelter in the 15th century for Jews who fled from Spain. The city also hosts the Kabbalah movement. In the cobblestone narrow streets of the Old Town founded by Spanish Jews, you often see mystical traces, which are the symbol of the doctrine, with blue painted doors and windows of Kabbalah. Many synagogues attract attention with their stone and wooden ornaments, and the ceiling and wall paintings also fascinate visitors. In the Old Town, where art galleries are intense, a short walk will take you from history to nature and you will find yourself among fruit trees and olive groves.

It is known that the first printing press in the Middle East was made here and the first Hebrew book was also published here in 1578. In the city, which is a settlement of artists, there is a separate district with a name of artists. The museums of the city of Safed, the perfect place for museum lovers, are the Meiri Museum and the Hungarian Museum. In the ancient cemetery, which has the monuments of deep history, there are tombs of leaders whom rabbis are constantly praying for. The most enjoyable and vibrant times of the city are during the festivals held annually. Particularly, the city's most famous festival, which is Klezmer Festival, hosts many tourists from all over the world.

The city is the highest and coldest city in Israel, which is 900 meters above sea level, with forests, streams and ruins on its borders. You can see snowfall in the winters, and you can encounter a warm climate in the summers. If you want to come to the city by air, the nearest and big airport is Haifa Airport, which is 69 kilometers away from the center of Safed. You can reach to city center by airport transfers, buses, taxis or by renting a car.
