Sao Sebastiao is a city in the Sao Paulo province of Brazil. The islands, formed by volcanic eruptions, that are attached to Ilhabela Municipality are just in the north of the city; the island, which is only 30 kilometers away from Sao Sebastiao, is called with the same name.

Being under the influence of tropical climate, the average temperature in Sao Sebastiao during summer months is measured around 30 degrees Celsius. This value decreases to around 22 degrees Celsius in winters. The city receives rainfall all year long, but especially in January. Humidity rate is over 75% during the whole year.

Sao Sebastiao is accepted as a popular holiday destination thanks to its thirty six beaches. The number of local tourists is especially high in the city where there are many summer houses. While the buses are used as means of public transportation within the city, the use of bicycles is also very common among the locals.

Most of the hotels and restaurants are located in the city center, composed of buildings from the colonial period. The coast on the other is the place for intense and active night life. A market where you can buy handmade small souvenirs and ornaments is also set in this area. Brazil’s largest skate park is also located in the coast area.

As Sao Sebastiao is a place for summer holidays, there are not so many touristic sights to visit or see. However, Nossa Senhora do Carmo e Senhor Bom Jesus Chapel, Sao Benedito e Sant’ Anna Chapel, Matriz Church and Casa Esperanca are among the places to be seen. There are two museums where the art and science lovers should visit: Sacra Art Museum and Marine Biology Center respectively.
