About Selcuk

Selçuk, which is a town in İzmir province, is located 21 kilometers of Kuşadası, one of the most popular tourist destinations of Aydın and also Turkey. In Selçuk, which mainly comes to the forefront with culture tourism, there are important archeological sites and structures like Şirince, Cave of the Seven Sleepers, the Ancient City of Ephesus, House of the Virgin Mary, St. John Church and İsabey Mosque. Selçuk, which was known as Ayasoluk in the ancient period, became a district of İzmir in 1957. The fascinating streets and historical houses of Şirince, Selçuk Castle, the world-famous Library of Celsus in the Ancient City of Ephesus, the Great Theatre, Stadium and St. John Church dating back to the middle ages are among the places to see.

When you go to Selçuk, you should have a breakfast in Şirince and eat gözleme (a traditional Turkish dish) in Seven Sleepers. The most popular restaurants in Selçuk: Sultan Han Restaurant, Bizim Ev Hanımeli Restaurant and Yedi Bilgiler Restaurant. You can do shopping from the district bazaar that is set up every Saturday.

Since the district center is not very big, you can provide your transportation by taxi. In addition, there are direct minibuses from Selçuk Bus Station to Kuşadası, Pamucak, Şirince, Seven Sleepers, Ephesus and Virgin Mary. If you prefer flying, you need to come to İzmir Adnan Menderes Airport. After reaching the airport, you can get on İZBAN metro from the airport and get to Selçuk in about one and half an hour.
