About Sesimbra

In the north of Portugal, on the coast of the Atlantic Ocean, is the small fishing town of Sesimbra. Here, fishing is done both as a source of income and also as a recreational sport. The town is just 40 km south of the capital Lisbon. Sesimbra looks like a postcard with rich blue waters, forested coastline, and colorful fishing boats that sway in the ocean.

Sesimbra has many great beaches and receives attention as a holiday destination by tourists. A great advantage of Sesimbra is the long summer season that’s offered by the warm Mediterranean climate. It’s also possible to take part in activities such as diving, canoeing, boat tours, or dolphin watching here. The vibrancy brought by the marine tourism in Sesimbra led the development of a colorful night-life, and an increase in the number of restaurants and cafes. The town’s rich availability in seafood must be tasted at local restaurants. The history of Sesimbra Castle dates back to 1000 years ago, and is recommended as a must-see with magnificent views of the town from up above. You should also go to the Cabo Espichel, where you will fall in love with the surrounding nature and even get to see some dinosaur footprints. The Church of Santiago, which fills the eyes with beautiful 17th tile ornamentations, definitely deserves a visit. The greatest of the natural beauty that Sesimbra has to offer can be found at the Arrabida National Park.
