The interestingly named Cata Island  is located in the central region of the Bahamas, streching out over ​​389 square kilometers and housing nearly 2,000 permanent inhabitants. However, since this tourist city has many visitors every year, the city is always much more crowded in reality. The name is thought to derive either from the local historical pirate Arthur Catt, or from the population of wild cats that once roamed throughout the island. Some time ago cotton production was widespread, but most of the agricultural land is not in use or being used as hotels today. The main product currently being produced mainly and exported to Italy for use in the pharmaceutical and perfume sector is the amber skin plant.

Cat Island is under the influence of tropical climate and the average yearly temperature is around 24-25C a year. Unlike other cities in the country, Cat Island does not experience very overwhelming heat due to the influence of Mount Alvernia. Cat Island also has clear, clean waters with large, bright and sandy beaches typical of the Bahamas. For this reason, it is one of the favorite stops for sea and sun holiday lovers and the city has many tourist facilities.

Cat Island has many water sports to enjoy. Surfing, water skiing, canoeing, diving are just a few of them. Fishing is also quite common and it is possible to do this activity without having to take supplies by signing up for various tours. The city, which has a rich variety of seafood restauraunts, also offers the opportunity to taste different fish and shellfish. Alvernia Mountain, the highest point in the Bahamas, is also located on Cat Island. It offers a wonderful setting for hiking and climbing sports. The island view from this point also looks great. Another feature that is a must visit is a mountaintop monastery named The Hermitage.

There are many different natural beauties on the island. Blue holes with depths of 60-70 meters are one of them. These regions are home to a very rich underwater world and a vibrant diversity. In addition, many species of birds live in these regions. Cat Island, the birthplace of Bahamian musician Tony McKey, is also known as Exuma. The city also has the opportunity to watch the Bahamas' ethnic music and folkloric demonstrations. There is a very lively night life in the city.
