About Tullamore

Tullamore, which means “the Big Hill”, is a county town of County Offaly, in the midlands of Ireland, and it is located in the center of the county. You can see the remnants of the Tudor tower houses on the way to Durrow Monastery, a Christian site from the 6th century, and Grand Canal in Tullamore, which gained the status of Gold Medal in 2015 National Tidy Town Awards.

Tullamore is known for a world-famous whiskey brand, the traces of which can be followed back till 1829. You can visit Tullamore D.E.W. facility, learn about the past of this historical distillation company and go on tasting tours. In this town, Charleville Castle, which has been surviving since the early 19th century, attracts great attention with its authentic architecture. You can allocate half a day for visiting the castle and its garden on a guided tour. Kilbeggan Distillery, the oldest licensed alcohol factory of Ireland, offers a whiskey tasting service accompanied by a meal, which takes approximately 3.5 hours.

Located in an area of 2.000 hectares, Lough Boora Discovery Park is a place where you can spend a day filled with activities in open air in its walking and cycling tracks, sculpture park and theme parks for children. Moreover, there are four different lakes you can consider for handline fishing between April and October. In the region, more than 130 bird species live, so it is a spectacular place for bird observers. At Clara Bog, which is one of the biggest and untouched bogs of Ireland, you can attend guided tours on the wooden pavement.

You can go walking and jogging, have picnic and spend good time with your children in Tullamore Town Park, a forestland in the south of the Tullamore River. In Tullamore, where you can taste the typical delicacies of the Irish cuisine, the main products are beef, lamb meat, pork, mashed potatoes and cabbage.
