Farah, the capital of Farah Province in western Afghanistan, is located on the Farah River. In the city, which is approximately 650 meters above the sea level, 110 thousand people live according to the data of 2004.  Most of the population consists of the Pashtuns and the remaining part is comprised of the Tajiks. Farah is the 16th biggest city of the country in terms of population, and airway transportation is achieved through Farah Airport in the city. With this airport in Farah, which is commercial and agricultural center, regular flights are held to Herat. Within the city, land route and railway transportation are preferred. In the city, hot subarid climate is dominant; summer months are extremely hot and winter months are cold. Rainfall is low, and it is usually observed in winters.
