Tripoli, also known as Trablusşam, is located in Shimal, a province in Lebanon. It is also the center of this province as well as it is the second largest city. Among the sightseeing spots in Tripoli, which is Lebanon's easternmost point, are Palm Islands (Rabbit Island), Khan al-Sabun (Soap Bazaar), Jewelers' Bazaar and the Clock Tower that was erected on the honor of the 30th year of Abdülhamid II's accession to the throne. Having a very long history dating back to the ancient ages, Tripoli hosted many cultures and civilizations such as Persians, Romans, Arabs, Crusaders, Mamluks and Ottomans throughout the history. Green turtles and rare birds live in the Palm Island, which is the largest of the four islets that are just off the city. This island was also declared as a World Heritage by UNESCO. Tripoli is a city that offers many authentic alternatives for shopping. The old bazaars in the city are similar to the bazaars in Turkey and there are various shopping options in these bazaars. Khan al-Sabun (Soap Bazaar), which was founded for those who trade soap centuries ago and where various soaps are sold even today, is very interesting for tourists.

The capital Beirut is the most ideal center for the air transportation in Tripoli. Rene Mouawad Air Base is approximately 40 minutes away from Tripoli city center; however, Rafic Hariri International Airport is more convenient for international flights. This airport is located only 89 kilometers away from Tripoli city center. Flights between Istanbul and Beirut take about 1 hour 45 minutes.
