About Adana

Adana is one of Turkey’s largest cities, with a population of 3.45 million inhabitants.Situated in the Mediterranean region, Adana experiences the highest year-round temperatures than any other city of Turkey. While Adana enjoys a temperate climate in the winter, it becomes scorchingly hot and dry in the summer.

Places to visit in Adana include Tepebağ Höyüğü (Tepebağ Mound), ruins of the oldest known city in the Çukurova Region; the Seyhan River, which offers wonderful scenery; Taşköprü (Stone Bridge), which dates back to Roman times; and Kazancılar Çarşısı (Bazaar of Cauldron-Makers), which you can find in the vicinity of the Büyük Saat (Great Clock Tower). Other must-sees for those travelling in the area are the Ramazanoğulları Konağı (Ramazanoglu Hall) from when Adana was the capital of theRamadanid dynasty ; Çarşı Hamam (Bath of the Bazaar), built by Piri Pasha and the biggest bathhouse in the region; Irmak Hamam (Bath of the River), with water supplied from the river; and Yeni Camii (New Mosque) constructed in the 1700s.

Adana can be reached by air, rail and road. The city has two airports: the Şakirpaşa Airport, open to civilians, and the military-use Incirlik Airport. Traffic congestion is not an issue in places other than the city center of Adana, where a subway line with 13 stations facilitates inner-city transportation.

Transportation to Adana City Center from Airport

Adana, which is the largest city in Mediterranean and Eastern Anatolia regions, is the Turkey’s fifth largest city that is connected to the world through Şakirpaşa Airport, which is located in Seyhan district. It is very easy to get to the airport which is 5km away from Yüreğir district, Kayalıbağ and Reşatbey neighborhoods which are accepted as the city center.

Although they are not headed to Adana, there are shuttle services and HAVAŞ buses at the airport. However, these buses only go to Mersin and Hatay.

Municipal Buses

You can reach the city center by riding on the municipality bus number 135 departing from Şakirpaşa Airport, which is located in Seyhan district, the most crowded district of Adana. You can reach the city center, Çukurova University and Turhan Cemal Beriker Boulevard connecting to Girne Boulevard by bus which you can take from the bus stops at the airport.

It is also possible to take the bus number 135 to reach the metro stations running on Akıncılar-Hospital route. The buses run hourly between 6 am and 7 pm every day and departs from the airport and Çukurova University simultaneously.

Minibus – Dolmush

At the airport, you can benefit from the minibus and dolmush transportation, which departs at shorter intervals compared to bus; it is a more preferred option because of the short distance from the airport to the city center. There are two minibus lines as Airport-City Center and Meydan (Square) carrying passengers to the city center. It would not be wrong to say that minibuses and dolmush pass through in a few minutes in both directions.

Taxi

You can also take a taxi at Şakirpaşa Airport to reach the city center along the Seyhan River.  Taxi is not an expensive option, because the airport is close to the city center.

Car

Adana Şakirpaşa Airport also offers various possibilities for those who wish to travel by their own cars in the city. There are 9 car rental offices at the airport including 5 at the Domestic Terminal and 4 at the International Terminal.

The airport also has an outdoor parking area with 569 cars capacity. If you drive through Turhan Cemil Beriker Boulevard following the Barış Boulevard at the exit of the airport, this route leads you to Sabancı Mosque, Girne Boulevard, Yüreğir Coach Station and Adana Archeology Museum in the city center.
